BCSA event: My Life and Work – an illustrated talk by prima ballerina Daria Klimentova – 27 March

Members of the public are invited to attend the following event organised with the kind cooperation of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic

My Life and Work
An illustrated talk by prima ballerina Daria Klimentová

Surprising the world of ballet with her appointment as principal dancer with the Prague National Ballet Company at the early age of 18, Daria Klimentová went on to have a stunning international career, garnering prize after prize and winning fans around the globe. In 2014, after many years as Principal Ballerina with English National Opera, her retirement made front-page news and her farewell performance in Romeo and Juliet at the Albert Hall was a triumph. Since then she has devoted herself to the education of new generations of dancers, notably by founding and teaching the International Ballet Masterclasses at Prague’s Národní divadlo. Her autobiography Daria Klimentová – Agony and Ecstasy – My Life in Dance was published in 2013.

A self-avowed “listless child”, who only grudgingly took up dancing rather than athletics, Daria has been lauded for her technical perfection, mature appreciation of roles, and her feminine grace. When quizzed about continuing to perform following her recovery from serious injuries, she retorted “We’re all a little crazy here, we dance until we drop”.

Vital and charming rather than crazy, Daria will evoke the highs and lows of her stellar career and hopefully demonstrate her other talent as a photographer of professional standard.
